Awesome Spyglass (Mod ID: 947033) is a vital utility that provides a detailed heads-up display whenever you look at a creature. It reveals hidden stats, pinpoints exact taming requirements, and can even highlight threats through terrain.
Setup and Features
Step 1: Crafting & Equipping
Unlock the engram and craft the spyglass directly in your inventory. Unlike a vanilla spyglass, you equip it directly to a dedicated utility slot or off-hand, allowing you to use your primary weapons simultaneously.
Step 2: Reading the Display
When you look at a wild creature, an overlay appears showing its exact health, torpor, base stats, and mutation count. Most importantly, it lists exactly how much of a specific food type (like kibble or mutton) is needed to successfully tame it.
Step 3: Customizing the UI (Alt + S)
The default UI can be overwhelming. Press Alt + S (or your console equivalent) to open the Spyglass Settings Menu. Here, you can change the size, position, and opacity of the display. You can also turn off features you don't need, such as GPS coordinates or crosshairs.
Step 4: Threat Outlines
From the settings menu, you can toggle colored outlines for creatures. Aggressive dinos outline in red, fleeing in yellow, and passive in green. This is incredibly useful for navigating deep oceans or thick jungles safely.
Optimization Tips
- If you prefer immersion but still want the info, set the spyglass overlay to only appear when you actively hold the "aim" button.
- Use the stat point distribution readout (the numbers in brackets next to stats) to easily spot perfect breeding candidates in the wild.
- You can configure the spyglass to also show remaining durability and contents of dropped loot beacons from a distance.
