Introduction to Runic Wyverns
The Runic Wyverns mod introduces magical, elemental wyverns to the Ark. These powerful creatures possess unique breath attacks and utilities, making them essential for traversal and combat.
Hatching & Raising
Step 1: Finding Nests
Unlike standard tames, Runic Wyverns must be raised from eggs. You can find their nests spawning in treacherous, high-altitude locations or specific biome trenches depending on the map. Bring a fast flyer to escape the angry parents!
Step 2: Incubation Requirements
Runic Wyvern eggs require extreme temperatures to hatch. Use multiple Air Conditioners, Dimetrodons, or the Dino Depot Terminal to provide the necessary incubation environment.
Step 3: Feeding the Babies
Baby Runic Wyverns require Wyvern Milk to survive until they reach the juvenile stage. You can obtain milk by tranquilizing wild female wyverns or defeating alphas. Store the milk in a Preserving Bin with Preserving Salts to extend its spoil timer.
Step 4: Mastering Abilities
Once fully grown, you can ride your Runic Wyvern. Experiment with their unique secondary and tertiary breath attacks. Some variants deal pure elemental damage, while others can inflict status effects or harvest specific resources efficiently.
Runic Crystals & Quartz Evolution
One of the most unique features of Runic Wyverns is their ability to mutate from their base form. By feeding a base Quartz Wyvern specific Runic Crystals (Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald), you can trigger an evolution that changes its variant into one of three powerful elemental types. Each crystal unlocks unique abilities:
1. Ruby Crystal - The Inferno (Fire) Variant
Best for: High DPS and raw damage output.
Feeding a Ruby Crystal transforms your wyvern into the Inferno variant. Its breath attack sets enemies ablaze, dealing significant damage over time. It is incredibly effective for melting down targets with large health pools or clearing out grouped enemies.
2. Sapphire Crystal - The Glacial (Ice) Variant
Best for: Crowd control and taming support.
Feeding a Sapphire Crystal evolves your wyvern into the Glacial variant. The ice breath applies a heavy slowing effect to targets, eventually freezing them solid. It is the perfect utility wyvern for locking down fast dinosaurs or safely escaping dangerous encounters.
3. Emerald Crystal - The Tempest (Lightning) Variant
Best for: Burst damage and stamina drain.
Feeding an Emerald Crystal creates the Tempest variant. Firing a concentrated beam of electricity, this variant deals extreme upfront burst damage and rapidly drains the stamina of whatever it hits, making it lethal in aerial combat.
The Halo Wyvern
In addition to the standard elemental variants, keep an eye out for the elusive Halo Wyvern. Unlike the others that require you to steal and hatch eggs, the Halo Wyvern is unique because you can acquire it via a passive tame. Simply approach him carefully in the wild and feed him to earn his trust without needing an incubation setup!
Preferred Taming Foods
To ensure a quick and secure passive tame, make sure to place his preferred foods in the last slot of your hotbar. The Halo Wyvern prefers the following foods (in order of effectiveness):
- Extraordinary Kibble: The absolute best option for a fast tame with maximum bonus levels.
- Raw Mutton: A highly effective alternative, though you will need to watch the spoil timer closely.
- Raw Prime Meat: Easier to farm on the spot, but will lower taming efficiency compared to kibble or mutton.
Pro Tips
- Use your Awesome Spyglass to check an egg's level and stats while it is still in the nest before risking your life to steal it.
- Tame a fast, high-stamina Pteranodon or Griffin exclusively for egg runs.
- With the server's 25x maturation rate, you won't need as much Wyvern Milk as you would on official settings, but you still must feed them manually initially!
